Pharmaceutical HRT is produced by licensed manufacturers under formal regulatory controls. Homebrew HRT is independently compounded from sourced active ingredients and excipients. Independent lab testing can provide useful product information, but it does not reproduce the full quality-control framework of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

It means that each millilitre of the solution contains 40 mg of the labelled estradiol ester.
